Our esteemed Head at Monash CTP, Jane Montgomery Griffiths, has been working on words for an upcoming NIDA production of Eurydike + Orpheus (a timeless and universal tale of love, loss, faith and surrender, inspired by Ancient Greek mythology)
This new adaptation has been conceived and directed by Priscilla Jackman, with words by Jane and circus direction by Zebastian Hunter and opened on the 10th June and will run in Sydney at NIDA Theatres 13th-17th June 7.30pm
With Eurydike + Orpheus, audiences are invited on a magnific and transformative journey, as we celebrate our shared lineage of epic storytelling, through this historic and universal myth of everlasting love.
Featuring NIDA final year Acting, Costume, Properties and Objects, Staging, Technical Theatre and Stage Management students, with students of the MFA in Design for Performance and National Institute of Circus Arts second year students.
Mila Wood, from weekendnotes.com wrote in her review of the performance opening night;
”This version of Orpheus + Eurydike explores the euphoric feeling of being in love, the unfathomable grief of losing a loved one and interestingly touches upon the subject of domestic violence and infidelity. Although the acts were exponentially delivered in a highly poetical way, it was expressed with clarity. Thus my admiration and gratitude to Montgomery Griffith who wrote the poetic words and had awakened the poet in me”.
Congratulations Jane on such high (but we have no doubt, worthy) praise of your work – the first of many, we are sure.
If you are keen to see Jane’s new play she has been working on from a writing perspective and you are in Sydney this week, check out details here:-
