Archaeology students in Prato

Archaeology studentsIn the Provence of Prato, some 15km from the Monash Prato Centre, is the excavation site of the Pietramarina.

The site is an Etruscan walled settlement dated from about the 7th century BCE to the Late Republican, Early Imperial Roman period (1st Century BCE – 1st Century CE).

It was restructured and probably walled around the 3rd century BCE.

On this year’s trip, students carried out the excavation of the South-West sector of the public square in front of the walls, outside of the gate.

Archaeology studentsThe process of unearthing the stone floor of the square will continue next year with the new batch of students.
