Every year, the Walter Mangold Trust Fund offers “travel awards for advanced tertiary language students currently attending a university in Victoria who apply for an exchange or study abroad placement to continue their language studies overseas for at least one semester”. A past recipient of this travel award, Dianne Louise Markov (student of Spanish at Monash), wrote after her return to Australia:
Studying in Spain was an incredible experience. I was able to immerse myself in the everyday rhythm of another city, meet its people, learn its traditions and enjoy its unforgettable food.
My time abroad allowed me to strengthen my Spanish outside the usual classroom setting. I became engaged not only with university life, but also Spanish life by participating in conversation exchanges, travelling to other cities and experiencing traditional festivals.
Getting involved allowed me to make the most of my experience and helped me become a more globally-aware person. I would like to thank the Walter Mangold Trust Scholarship for supporting me in my studies in Spain.
