with Professor Conal Condren (UNSW) Thursday 7 November, 5:30pm State Library of Victoria, Village Roadshow Theatrette 328 Swanston St, Melbourne (enter via La Trobe St)
In early modern England, just as in late medieval and Renaissance Italy, tyranny was seen as theoretically inimical to justice and liberty, yet in practice something to be lived with and accepted. In this lecture, Professor Conal Condren will explore the uses of tyranny, and liberty in seventeenth-century England, and provide insight and clarity to these concepts that were rather different from those familiar now.
