Dr Helen Forbes-Mewett is a Lecturer and Australian Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow in Sociology, School of Political and Social Inquiry. Dr Mewett’s research focuses on International Student Security and Crime.

Helen is currently undertaking ARC funded research on International Student Safety and Crime. International student safety and crime is an issue of major international concern, impacting on the lucrative international student market, international relations, host country’s reputations as tolerant and safe and the safety and security of international students as well as the broader population.

While the topic has attracted much media attention, public commentary and debate there has been little research that systematically describes, analyses and reflects on the phenomena. The project will provide a detailed account of international students and crime in Australia, UK and US.

Research highlights the many challenges that International Students face, including prejudice, and the enormous contribution such students make to education, economy and skills in Australia. To read more go to: http://theconversation.edu.au/profiles/helen-forbes-mewett-7903
