The School of Political and Social Inquiry (PSI) and its constituent discipline programs (Anthropology, Behavioural Studies, Criminology, Gender Studies, Politics and Sociology) have a long and distinguished history in the delivery of excellent higher degree by research education.
The School, the largest Social and Political Science School in Australia, offers excellence and innovation in graduate research education and provides the conditions necessary to support and facilitate the timely and effective completion of a research project (the thesis) and the acquisition of a suite of professional and transferable skills within and alongside the candidature experience.
The Advanced Studies program supports and enhances the important role of the discipline-based programs providing expert supervision to students through a structured induction into postgraduate life, an emphasis on the research skills training necessary to achieve research success and the successful launch of professional careers for all our graduates.
We focus on building and sustaining our graduate research community through cohort activities which bring together students and academics and support the intellectual and professional development of all our postgraduates. We engage our Honours students in this endeavour recognizing the important pathways through Honours into higher degree research.
PSI has big ambitions for its graduate students: the timely completion of their theses, induction into research communities through publication, and the acquisition of professional research skills.
PSI aims to produce not only the highest quality higher degree by research theses, but graduates who leave the school as highly educated, independent researchers. Our aim is to produce research of the highest quality and researchers who are critically minded, analytically skilful and competitive in the global research labour market.
