The Social Futures and Life Pathways (‘Our Lives’) Project is an ongoing research study that follows a large cohort of young Queenslanders from adolescence to later life. We aim to empirically investigate how young people think about their future and how they master their trajectories in a world of rapid change and uncertainty.
In 2006, over 7,000 young people in 213 schools across Queensland participated in the first Our Lives survey during their first year of high school (aged 12/13). Thus far, four follow-up surveys and over 150 qualitative interviews have been conducted with members of the original cohort, now in their early twenties, generating a rich and valuable picture of how their attitudes, values and life pathways are developing.
