Monash researchers will explore the oldest stars in the galaxy, transform the manufacturing of high value products and examine gender politics in Asia Pacific, the Middle East and North Africa, thanks to funding from the Australian Research Council (ARC).
The Minister for Education, the Hon. Christopher Pyne MP, announced $115 million in funding this week as part of the ARC’s Future Fellowships scheme. Awarded to the best and brightest mid-career researchers, 150 researchers across Australia have been selected this year.
Ten Monash researchers across five faculties have been awarded funding totaling over $7.8 million, enabling them to commence research in a variety of areas. One Fellow will join the Faculty of Science to undertake their research project.
Provost and Senior Vice-President, Professor Edwina Cornish congratulated the Fellows.
“I’m delighted to hear that 10 Monash researchers become Future Fellows. This funding will enable our researchers to tackle a variety of important issues from genetics to globalisation,” Professor Cornish said.
“The announcement reflects the breadth and quality of research at Monash and I wish to thank the ARC for this important investment.”
Monash has been awarded 95 Fellowships since the scheme began in 2009, which promotes research in areas of critical national importance by giving outstanding researchers incentives to conduct their research in Australia.
The Monash researchers awarded Future Fellowships in 2014 are:
- Dr Joanne Evans, Faculty of Information Technology
