Monash University in conjunction with the Emerging Writers’ Festival is pleased to present the Monash Undergraduate Prize for Creative Writing, a prestigious prize for emerging literary voices.
Now in its third year, the Prize is a significant literary award for new and emerging writers. In 2014, for the first time, the Prize is open to both Australian and New Zealand university students, enrolled in either an undergraduate or honours degree.
Monash University has been the long-term educational partner of the Emerging Writers’ Festival, and the Prize strengthens both parties’ commitment to providing learning and career advancement opportunities for emerging literary voices.
First prize: $4000
Highest placed Monash University student prize: $1000
Winner/s will be announced on Tuesday 27 May at the opening night of the 2014 Emerging Writers’ Festival.
Shortlisted winners will receive VIP tickets to the opening night gala event.
Verge — Monash University’s student publication — will publish both the winner and highest placed Monash student.
Judges: Meg Mundell (Black Glass), Felix Nobis (Monash University) and Robert Watkins (Hachette).
Genre: Creative Writing
All types of creative writing will be accepted, including short stories, non-fiction narrative and narrative verse.
Word length: 1500–3000 words
Closing date for entries: Thursday 17 April 2014
Shortlist announced: Friday 9 May 2014
Winner announced: Tuesday 27 May 2014
Eligibility: Any student enrolled in an undergraduate or honours degree at any university in Australia or New Zealand may enter. A student number and course code is required to enter.
Travel to and from the Emerging Writers’ Festival is at the winners’ own expense.
