Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Commerce degree student Angela Snooks is the only Monash student selected for the 2014 Uni-Capitol Washington Internship Program (UCWIP).
The internship allows Angela to complete a two-month, full-time internship in a United States Congressional office with unique access to the US political system and institutions.
In her application, Angela cited the desire to restore her faith in politics as a vehicle for social change as a motivating factor behind her interest in the UCWIP. Angela explained that she “applied for the UCWIP in the hope that it would allow me to gain a greater perspective on the role politics plays in making a difference in peoples’ lives, as well as to understand the inner processes of one of the world’s most intriguing political systems”.
“The intership offers a more holistic understanding of American politics and culture. As a passionate student of history, politics and economics, this first-hand knowledge is indespensable and irresistable,” Angela said.
Angela explained how she wants to be inspired and energised by the experience and hopes to return to Australia with a greater sense of direction for her future and her role in facilitating politics as a vehicle for social change.
Angela will spend January and February 2014 in Washington D.C., completing her internship with the honourable Mr Robert Aderholt, United States House of Representative for Alabama.
Monash Abroad Coordinator Sarah Argles sais they are looking forward to assisting students with their professional and personal development through overseas opportunities similar to the UCWIP. “We are very please that Angela was selected as the second Monash student to participate in the program since Monash University joined the program in 2013.”
Application details for the next round will be available during the first semester of 2013 via Monash Abroad.
