The Piano Program focuses on three main areas: solo repertoire, accompaniment and collaborative piano, and piano pedagogy. Piano students participate in piano ensembles, chamber music groups, as well as in activities with the Monash Academy Orchestra. Recent public performance projects have included a survey of music by individual composers such as Chopin, Liszt, Grieg, Tchaikovsky and Easton, as well as themed projects, for example, of Australian keyboard music.
The School’s dedicated and experienced piano teaching staff foster and develop the talents of the musicians under their tutelage to a high level of music performance, instilling in students a solid technique which opens their ears to the vast scope of piano literature.
The Piano Program also delivers a weekly workshop class which is taken by local and international musicians. Recent visitors include: Paul Badura-Skoda (Austria), Philippe Cassard (France), Roy Howat (UK), Guillermo Gonzalez (Spain), Geoffrey Saba (UK), Luisa Morales (Spain), Leslie Howard (UK), Nada Kecman (Austria), Livia Teodorescu-Ciocanea (Romania), Albert Tiu (Singapore), Sarah Grunstein (USA), Paul Badura Skoda (Austria), Roberto Prosseda (Italy) and many others.
