Monash PhD musicology student, Ian Parsons, invited to prestigious seminar in Germany

Ian ParsonsIan Parsons, a PhD student in Musicology in the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music, is one of only a handful of scholars worldwide to be invited to an intensive series of workshops in Germany on the composer Karl Stockhausen.

The Stockhausen Courses and Concerts are presented biannually in Kürten Germany. Initiated by the composer himself in 1998, the Courses continue to provide an intensive opportunity for composers, performers and musicologists to study Stockhausen’s works under the guidance of the musicians who worked directly with the composer during his lifetime.

The Courses include a series of seminars presented by musicologists at the invitation of the Stockhausen Foundation.

Ian has been invited to present in this component of the 2017 Courses in June, alongside world leading Stockhausen experts, Rudolf Frisius, Jerome Kohl and Thomas Ulrich.

Ian will be presenting at the 2017 Courses about some of the philosophical dimensions of the music of Stockhausen’s opera cycle LICHT, particularly from the perspective of psychoanalytic semiotics.
