Entry requirements for continuing Monash BMus students
Performance Honours students must have achieved an average grade of 70% from four units (24 points) consisting of:
- ATS3021 or ATS3022 or ATS3826 or ATS3827 or ATS3900,
- and, where a distinction is required ATS3831 (MUS3990) and one other unit at second or third year level.
Composition Honours students must have achieved an average grade of 70% in four units (24 point):
Ethnomusicology/Musicology Honours students must have achieved an average grade of 70% from four units (24 points) consisting of:
- ATS3824, ATS3825,
- and, where a distinction is required ATS3831 (MUS3990), and one other unit at second or third year level
Entry requirements for external BMus Honours applicants
Applicants must have completed a three year undergraduate degree with a major in the discipline for which they are applying (exceptions exist for composition, ethnomusicology and musicology who have completed an undergraduate degree in performance). *Performance* applicants will also be required to audition. *Composition* applicants will also be required to submit a folio comprised of 2 works (submitted either as a PDF or a small sound file). *Ethnomusicology/Musicology *applicants will also be required to undertake an interview, as well as provide examples of academic work and transcripts of their undergraduate degree.
Combined Honours may be taken in music and another discipline provided that all honours requirements have been met in both disciplines and subject to approval by the Honours coordinators from both schools/centres.
Mid-year entry is not offered by the School.
The honours requirements for full-time study is for one year. Part-time study is offered.
The School may grant an extension of time for submission of the honours thesis or for final coursework up to the last day of the examination period of the semester in which the work is due. Beyond this time special consideration forms must be submitted to the school.
