Dr John Garzoli awarded a Post-Doctoral position at Khon Kaen University

JohnGarzoli2The Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music are thrilled to announce that Adjunct Research Associate and ethnomusicologist Dr John Garzoli has been awarded a three month Post-Doctoral Visiting International Scholar position at Khon Kaen University in Thailand.

John specializes in traditional Thai classical and folks musics, and contemporary Thai fusion music. Garzoli, who completed his PhD in 2014, will use this research period to complete fieldwork research into the khaen playing of Isan and teach in the Music Department at Khon Kaen University.

This trip will further strengthen ties between Monash University, Thai universities and other international institutions. Garzoli will also use this trip to work with acclaimed musician Bruce Gaston on a musical project that aims to relieve stress in children suffering illness. John is currently an Adjunct Research Associate at Monash University, an Asialink Leaders Fellow, and a Visiting Research Fellow at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok where he has ongoing research projects. He was awarded the Prime Minister’s Endeavour Award in 2011 and the Monash Post Graduate Publications Award in 2014.
