Competition Success for Ziggy Johnston

PastedGraphic-2Monash School of Music 2nd-year classical guitar student Ziggy Johnston has been receiving considerable prominence in competition performances in recent weeks. In the Open Category of the Melbourne Guitar Foundation Solo Competition he received third prize. The results were as follows:
1st: Ciaran Edwards-McKeown (Sydney Conservatorium)
2nd: Miles Johnston (Ziggy’s brother)
3rd: Ziggy Johnston (Monash)
Hon. mention: Emma-Shay Gallenti-Guilfoyle (ANU)

In another recent national competition, the 6th edition of the “Great Romantics Competition”  held at the Melbourne Recital Centre on 4 October, the Elizabeth Murdoch Prize (1st prize) was awarded to pianist Aaron Liu from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. The winner of the Kantor Encouragement Award (2nd prize) was Ziggy Johnston.

As might be imagined, it is by no means easy for a guitarist to do so well in a competition that is open to all instruments. Congratulations Ziggy! The prestige of the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music continues to grow.
