The Monash Classical Guitar Ensemble is a flexible group which performs in a variety of formations including trios and quartets. Its repertoire is based in original works of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries such as Hindemith, L’Hoyer and Von Call as well as arrangements of renaissance works through to contemporary pieces. Each project focuses on a certain period of repertoire so that a serious discussion of performance practice can be undertaken.
The Guitar Ensemble is not meant to replace guitarists working with other instruments but rather, is seen as a training ground for ensemble skills precisely for the purpose of guitarists being ensemble ready. Monash guitarists have performed in a variety of chamber ensembles including guitar quintets, guitar and piano, guitar and voice and guitar with string orchestra.
