New in 2019! Composition and Music Technology

The Composition and Music Technology (CMT) specialisation in the Bachelor of Music degree trains music creators of the future. Students develop skills in composition for acoustic and electronic instruments, songwriting and music for other media such as film and video games through collaborations with other parts of the university community.

CMT students will have the opportunity to collaborate with Performance students at the School, write for international visiting artists and undertake their own recording projects. As part of testing composition techniques in performance scenarios, students engage with the variety of music technology in the industry for composing, recording, mixing, mastering and software programming. This includes engagement with the unique Meyer Sound Constellation systems in the Ian Potter Centre for the Performing Arts and the Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio.

The schools ongoing program of local, national and international visiting artists and workshops means students are already in contact with the industry whilst still undertaking their studies.
