Speaking in the Sistine Chapel

CMRS Director, Associate Professor Peter Howard recently addressed an International Study Day of historical and art historical experts that took place inside the Sisitine Chapel in Rome, as part of an invited program jointly sponsored by the Institut für Kunstgeschichte der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte in collaboration with the Musei Vaticani, the Gabinetto dei Disegni e delle Stampe degli Uffizi and the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut.

Peter’s paper addressed “The Visual Art of Preaching in the Frescoes of the Sistine Chapel”, examining how the decorative program responded to the historical context of its time, and the preaching context that took place within the space. We look forward to seeing it soon in print.
