Essay Prize for Hannah Viney

Hannah VineyUndergraduate student Hannah Viney was recently awarded the 2013 First Year Essay Prize in History for her major research essay in the Renaissance Europe unit (ATS1317). Her winning essay addressed the topic “The discovery of a new and unknown American continent challenged traditional Eurocentric notions and enabled people to think about the world in new ways. Do you agree?”. Hannah dealt with this complex topic with aplomb, avoiding the generalisations that are so tempting to many students and making great use of both primary and secondary sources. Congratulations Hannah!
