The Second Language and Society Centre Annual Roundtable 2010

The Second Annual Language and Society Centre Roundtable was held on February 18th and 19th 2010, at Monash University Clayton campus.

This year’s topic was “Intercultural and Plurilingual Communication: From the Streets to the Internet”. Processes such as globalisation, global mobility, and new technologies have led to increased contacts between people from various backgrounds, leading to the emergence of new “cultural groups” such as virtual internet communities. Such developments have provided new opportunities, as well as challenges, for the study of intercultural and plurilingual communication and its increasingly complex nature in the early 21st century.
