Research in Interpreting and Translating

Monash University is a national leader in the field of Translation and Interpreting Studies. We have established research links with several high profile international institutions including the University of Warwick (UK), Jean Moulin University Lyon 3 (France), the University of Trieste (Italy), Southeast University (China) and the Free University of Berlin (Germany). These links allow research-led institutions such as ours to meet the global challenges of the 21st century, accelerating the exchange of people, ideas and information in the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, and beyond.

The quality of research conducted by staff in Translation and Interpreting Studies at Monash is evidenced by our publications in nationally and internationally renowned presses including Continuum, Routledge, Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Röhrig Universitätsverlag and Monash University Publishing, and leading journals in the field such as: Target: International Journal of Translation Studies, Translation Studies, New Voices in Translation Studies, International Journal of Interpreter Education, The Interpreter and Translator Trainer, International Journal of Translation and Interpreting Research, International Journal of Multilingualism, Interpreting, International Journal of the Sociology of Language, The Translator. Our staff includes the co-editor of The Translator and the editor of the AALITRA Review.

Within the Arts Faculty, we collaborate with experts in literary studies, linguistics, creative writing, performance studies, history and journalism to provide a unique research environment for doctoral students in the area of translation and interpreting studies. Currently we have a diverse cohort of around 20 PhD students, contributing actively to a lively research environment.
