A2 CEFR I can understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). I can catch the main point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements. I can read very short, simple texts. I can find specific, predictable information in simple everyday material such as advertisements, prospectuses, menus and timetables and I can understand short simple personal letters. I can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities. I can handle very short social exchanges, even though I can’t usually understand enough to keep the conversation going myself. I can use a series of phrases and sentences to describe in simple terms my family and other people, living conditions, my educational background and my present or most recent job. I can write a series of simple phrases and sentences linked with simple connections like ‘ and’, ‘ but’ , and ‘because’.
A2 + Spanish and Latin American Studies In ATS 2193, I listen to and have a global understanding of  video and audio files of varying durations that talk about a variety of contemporary issues such as the environment.I can successfully complete online listening exercises that discuss contemporary topics that I have studied in class.

I can successfully complete a listening comprehension test at the end of semester.

In ATS2193, I can complete short weekly readings of a minimum of 500 words on a variety of cultural topics specific to the Spanish speaking world.I can read selected short stories and extracts from selected literary texts. In ATS2193, I can express my views on a range of contemporary topics such as the environment. I can answer basic questions about such topics. In class,  I can participate in student direct role-plays. In ATS2193, I can talk about a range of contemporary topics. I can talk about myself in a nuanced way, how I feel and what I think about a range of personal and contemporary topics. In ATS2193, I can write compositions of 250+ words about myself, my daily life and daily events as well as write about some essential contemporary issues such as the environment.I consistently do short written activities in class. I am able to write informal emails to friends, fill out a job application using the correct register and exchange information on a range of personal topics.
A2 Spanish and Latin American Studies In ATS1192, I can understand short audio files (3-4 min) that talk about family, friends and everyday situations. I am developing a global understanding of short audio files (2-3 min) about daily events.I can successfully complete in-class listening exercises that require me to understand information about family, daily life (shopping, giving and receiving directions, etc). In ATS1192, I can read and understand short texts of approximately 300 words such as very simple stories.I can also understand basic written information about everyday life (e.g.weather forecasts, menus and travel summaries). I am able to  comprehension exercises for short, simple cultural texts (200-300 words).  In ATS1192, I can communicate with others about myself, my family and my daily activities. I can respond to a wider range of questions on specific topics with which I am familiar. In ATS1192, I can provide basic information about myself, my background, my friends, family and interests. I can talk about my daily life in the university. I can express in simple terms my plans for the future. In ATS1192, I can write compositions up to 400 words and use appropriate tools to join sentences and create a piece of written work that flows. My final writing task enables me to write my own fairytale.
