I can understand specialised articles and longer technical instructions, even when they do not relate to my field. I can express myself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. I can use language flexibly and effectively for social and professional purposes. I can formulate ideas and opinions with precision and relate my contribution skilfully to those of other speakers. I can present clear, detailed descriptions of complex subjects integrating sub-themes, developing particular points and rounding off with an appropriate conclusion. C1+ In ATS3120, I can understand impromptu speech in public places or through phones where sound quality is not been optimised. I can understand films, interviews, announcements & dialogues without too much effort and with a variety of accents. I can recognise some regional deviations from standard Indonesian. In ATS3120, I can read advanced analytical language texts from a range of subject areas such as journalism, health, politics and business texts. I can understand a variety of opinions and implicit statements as in irony and satire. In ATS3120, I am able to argue persuasively and exploit appropriate cultural expressions to express opinions or ideas from my home culture. I am able to adapt and vary my language according to differing social and cultural conditions. In ATS3120, I am able to argue persuasively in a group meeting and propose alternatives to an academic proposal. I can draw on academic readings in both English and Indonesian, translating where necessary and defining project specific terminology. I can express potential weaknesses in a proposed academic project. In ATS3120, I am able to write an academic essay referencing a wide variety of sources to present a coherent argument. I can write speculatively predicting several possible research outcomes. I can write creatively exploiting a deep knowledge of vocabulary and a variety of writing styles.
C1 In ATS3119, I can understand extended speech even when there is some degree of ellipsis or shortening of grammatical structures. I can understand films, interviews, lectures & dialogues in standard Indonesian without too much effort. I can understand open discussion where there are regular changes in the topic. I can comprehend common colloquial language. In ATS3119, I can read and understand extended academic and literary texts. I can understand specialised articles and longer technical instructions, even when they do not relate to my field with the use of specialist dictionaries. In ATS3119, I am able to express ideas clearly and fluently in academic debates on a wide range of subjects including journalism, literature, politics, history & performance arts. I can present issues and express personal opinions to an audience without the use of extensive notes. I can answer impromptu questions about a professional field. In ATS3119, I am able to express ideas clearly and fluently in outlining an academic research proposal to a class group and supervisor. I am able to present a 20 minute academic presentation to colleagues and provide further details when prompted or questioned. In ATS3119, I am able to develop argumentative essay structure and summarise government or academic texts from a variety of disciplines. I can present considered arguments in response to complex questions. At the end of the semester, I can write a 3,000 word essay on academic topic I have proposed.
