B1 CEFR I can understand the main points of clear standard speech on everyday familiar matters at work, school & leisure. I can understand the main point of radio or TV programmes on current affairs or topics of personal or professional interest when the delivery is relatively slow and clear. I can understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday or job-related language. I can understand the description of events, feelings and wishes in personal letters. I can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. I can enter unprepared into conversation on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life such as family, hobbies, work, travel and current events. I can connect phrases in a simple way in order to describe experiences and events, my dreams, hopes and ambitions. I can briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. I can narrate a story or relate the plot of a book or film and describe my reactions. I can write straightforward connected text on topics, which are familiar, or of personal interest.
B1+ In ATS3116, I can understand extended speech and lectures and follow basic lines of argument provided the topic is related to general knowledge. I can understand the essence of TV news and current affairs programmes when read or spoken in a clear deliberate manner. >In ATS3116, I can read and understand journalistic texts about the media and politics and traditional beliefs written for a broad readership (400-600 words), though my understanding of culturally specific details remains limited.  I can follow the story line and understand the   characteristics of the central characters in contemporary literary texts. In ATS3116, I can participate in discussions on familiar topics and topics covered in the semester such as traditional music and theatre, contemporary music & theatre and pop culture. I can discuss the narrative of a contemporary play by using general standard language. In ATS3116, I can express ideas and opinions in short presentations on topics covered during the semester. My fluency is improving and I can use more specific vocabulary to argue my opinion and provide a nuanced response in a class presentation or oral exam. In ATS3116, at the end of the semester, I can write an extended argument using more advanced structures including a variety of passive constructions and time markers to coherently present observations and opinions about political and cultural relationships in contemporary Indonesia.
B1 In ATS3115, I have global understanding of authentic short audio and video files (5-15mins). I can follow the classes in Indonesian and understand the main points of those speaking standard Indonesian, despite not being able to understand every word. In ATS3115, I can read general magazine or newspaper articles using standard Indonesian on topics such as health, NGOs, Indonesian labour force, pop culture, internet language personal relationships & services.  I can understand the general story line and overall nature of characters in a short literary texts. In ATS3115, I can interact through group discussions, class debate and class oral presentations with some preparation. I can pose questions and respond in an impromptu fashion to materials presented in the unit. In ATS3115, I can give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans, recount a personal story or summarise the general points of an article or film during an interview as part of the final oral exam. I can present with my partner a 10-minute discussion with the use of notes and slides on issues related to everyday life. I am able to answer questions on the topic spontaneously using simple vocabulary and sentence structures. In ATS3115, I can write straightforward connected text coherently on a variety of topics studied in the unit. I can write extended written responses of 300 words or more on these topics in the final exam. I can translate the basic information from a journalistic article on a variety of everyday themes from Indonesian to English.
