Student Success in the Japanese Speech Contest

HirokoThe Japanese Language Speech Contest 2014 (Victorian Final) was held at the University of Melbourne on 7th September with 7 Monash students participating. Congratulations to the students and to the staff who helped them prepare their speeches and supported them on the day. The overall standard was very high and the Open Division was competitive.

Monash participants and prizes are:

Open Beginner Division (8 participants)

  • Yie Chinn (Crystal) Pun (Proficient 2): 3rd Prize
  • Gi Bbeum Park (Proficient 2)

Open Division (15 participants)

  • Sharmain Tan (Proficient 2): The Melbourne-Osaka Sister City Award (One return flight to Osaka, homestay accommodation for one week in Osaka and a one-week Japan Rail Pass)
  • Yue Zhang (Accounting): 2nd Prize
  • Kevin Chiu (Japanese Studies Advanced: Literature and literary translation in 2013): Keiko Hongo Family Fund Award
  • Alexander McLeish (Advanced 2)
  • Kara Robinson (Proficient 2)

The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Melbourne, in cooperation with its participating member companies will offer internships to some of the participants.
