Italian Studies is a program within the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics. We offer students the possibility to study at a full range of levels from undergraduate courses for beginners and advanced learners of Italian language, right through to honours, masters and PhD study.
Monash is one of the largest and most dynamic centres for Italian Studies in Australia. Staff have a range of expertise that includes Second language learning, Italian literature, cinema and history, Translation Studies, and Migration and Intercultural Studies.
Monash also has a campus in Prato, Tuscany, and offers students the possibility to undertake courses and exchanges in Italy.
The Italian undergraduate course is designed to enable students to develop competence in the Italian language, and an interest in specific areas of study in Italian literature, linguistics, civilization and history. As Italian is the most widely spoken language after English in Australia, attention is paid to the Italian language in the Australian community.
