About the Organisation

The State Museum at Majdanek was founded in November 1944 on the grounds of the former German concentration camp. It is an institution directly subordinated to the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The mission of the Museum is to cultivate the memory and promote historical education about the German occupation in the Lublin region during World War Two, particularly by means of commemorating the victims, preserving the relics and documenting the history of the concentration camp at Majdanek and the death camps in Belzec and Sobibor.

About the Internship

Position: Intern
Starting Date: Available in Winter Semester only
Duration: Minimum 4 weeks to Maximum 6 months

This would appeal to students that are travelling on the Final Journey: Remembering the Holocaust study tour.

Role Description:
There are a number of short-term and long-term projects available for Monash interns, such as the following tasks:

  • Editing English texts and preparing iconography for the needs of the Majdanek website and Facebook profile
  • Digitalization of documents in the Museum archives
  • Digitalization of Majdanek Museum collections
  • Editing oral history testimonies and transcription of the testimonies available in English and German
  • Proofreading/correction of English translation of museum panels
  • Taking photographs of historical landscape and buildings
  • Documenting events taking place in the Museum
