Stand Up – Indigenous Partnership Program

Stand Up has been working with several remote Indigenous communities over the last 12 years.
We believe in fair and equal opportunities for the Indigenous youth living in these communities Stand Up believes that all youth have the support and the opportunities to excel at whatever they wish to achieve and are skilled and inspired to provide leadership in their communities.

Start Date: Semester 1 (26 Feb – 25 May)
Student will work from the Malvern office and then in Northern Victoria during the school holiday program (April)
Min 144 hours (typically 2 days per week)
Cohort: History, International Studies, SOPHIS students

Role Description 
Stand Up runs regular school holiday programs for the youth in the Yorta Yorta region of northern Victoria. The main community that work with is called Cummeragunja, on the border with NSW.
We also run educational trips for school students in Year 9.

The selected intern will help coordinate these programs, and tasks include:

  • developing education programs
  • visiting Cummeragunja with volunteers
  • ensuring our programs are being facilitated in a professional and culturally sensitive manner.


  • Visit Cummeragunja with CEO to plan programs for the year.
  • Attend school holiday program in April 2018*. Programs run for 4 days.
  • Work with the Yorta Yorta community programs to ensure they are running smoothly.
  • Observe Stand Up practices and behaviour guidelines in relation to child safety;
  • Provide a safe environment for all young people participating in Stand Up programs;

  • Respect the confidentiality of information regarding the participants and their families.

*Student must attend the school holiday program for 4 days in April, located in Northern Victoria (accommodation is covered by the host).

Scholarships & Funding

A $1000 scholarship will be available to the successful student if they meet the eligibility requirements.
