About the Organisation
Founded in 2006, MICRA (Microfinance Innovation Centre for Resources and Alternatives), is an Indonesian foundation focused on development of the microfinance sector. MICRA’s mission is to build the institutional strength and outreach of the Indonesian microfinance sector. They do this by providing a full range of high-­quality, best‐practice technical inputs and support to all industry stakeholders, in a sustainable and demand-­‐driven manner. Their focus is in the following three areas:

  • Research and innovation
  • Technical Assistance
  • Ratings and Appraisals

Current projects at MICRA include, Agricultural Microfinance in East Indonesia, training on financial literacy for factory workers in Jakarta and profit sharing in West Java and Bandung. About the Internship
You will primarily be working on the development of MICRA’s three main objectives -‐ Research and Innovation, Technical Assistance or Ratings and Appraisals. Your level of engagement will depend on your Indonesian language capabilities.

The key objective of the internship will be to help develop and maintain existing procedures to sustain MICRA’s outreach in the micro finance industry.

The title of the role is Social Development intern. As a Social Development intern you can expect to be involved in:

  • Showing donors the impact of their work and why they should invest -­‐ i.e. Impact assessment.
  • Social Research for impact measurement-­‐PPI (Producer Price Index)
  • Writing reports, newsletters, etc. – material for the organisation, general public and donors.
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations for meetings
  • Visit factory workers
  • Data entry
  • During this internship, there may be potential for you to visit MICRA’s current project sites. However, this will be dependent on the capacity of the organisation at the time of your internship.

Applicants with strong Indonesian language capabilities will have more complex involvement in their tasks at MICRA. The tasks of this internship may also vary, depending on the current projects being undertaken by MICRA at the time of your placement.

The tangible output of the work undertaken during this internship will likely include field assessments, document filing, research, data entry and report writing. Intangible output will most likely include the attendance of meetings, field projects and any relevant events.

Costs
The fee charged by International Internships (Service Provider) is in addition to the tuition fees for the unit ATS3130. Accommodation and in country support packages are optional but highly recommended.

Travel insurance is provided by Monash University. It will cover you for personal travel prior to and after your overseas program, and includes access to 24-hour a day medical and emergency assist services.
