Background: Solidaritas Perempuan was established in 1990 and has the goal of promoting grassroots women’s rights in the areas of migration, human trafficking, HIV and AIDS, food sovereignty, conflicts over natural resources, and religious fundamentalism. It has 13 branches around Indonesia and 777 members, both male and female.

Solidaritas Perempuan has hosted a number of interns in the past, both from within Indonesia and abroad. This includes students from Australia, Indonesia, Norway and Thailand. Position 1: PR and International Campaigning Intern

Dates Available Start anytime from November 2016

Minimum – 4 weeks

Maximum – 24 weeks

Project objective / key areas of engagement: The intern will work with the Solidaritas Perempuan team to build their international profile through campaigning in a number of media. Solidaritas Perempuan is already quite well-­‐known and active across Indonesian media but the intern will help them build their English-­‐language presence and thus their international profile. Solidaritas Perempuan hopes that with a greater international profile it will be able to attract more funding and increase international collaborations.
Likely tasks / description of role: The intern will produce content in English about Solidaritas Perempuan and the work they do for a variety of social media and will work on content to develop an English version of the website. The intern will also develop links between Solidaritas Perempuan and organisations in other countries.
Output required by intern The intern will develop material to be published through social media, the website and print media; and will develop partnerships with international organisations.
Expected work hours 9:00am – 5:00pm, Mon – Fri, with some flexibility
Dress code Smart-casual on most days, with formal attire required for some events.
Requirements for intern

There is flexibility for the right candidate and students from most areas of study are suitable.

No Indonesian language is required for this position, but it is preferred. The intern should also be enthusiastic about the opportunity to develop their skills in Indonesian during the internship.

The intern should be proactive and happy to be involved in discussions, which is the most common form of communication at Solidaritas Perempuan. They should be passionate about women’s rights and Indonesian culture and be enthusiastic to learn about and be immersed in the ‘Solidaritas Perempuan family’.


The fee charged by International Internships (Service Provider) is in addition to the tuition fees for the unit ATS3130. Accommodation and incountry support packages are optional but highly recommended.

Travel insurance is provided by Monash University. It will cover you for personal travel prior to and after your overseas program, and includes access to 24-hour a day medical and emergency assist services.

Post Graduate:

  • Asiabound Scholarship at $3,000 each

To be eligible for scholarships you must be:

  • An Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Enrolled as an  postgraduate student

All students (domestic and international) will be eligible for additional $900 Monash Abroad Travel bursary plus travel insurance.

Domestic students may be eligible for interest free government loan (like HECS) of upto $7,500 through OS-HELP.
