Ovarian Cancer Australia Internships Summer B

Ovarian Cancer Australia is a national body for ovarian cancer in Australia. They were founded in 2001 by a group of people who were personally affected by ovarian cancer, either themselves or through someone that they loved.

Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
Each year in Australia Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month is held in February to raise awareness of ovarian cancer and to recognise women, their families and friends affected by ovarian cancer. Throughout the month Ovarian Cancer Australia hosts a range of activities and events to raise awareness and funds for our support, awareness, advocacy and research programs. 2 interns are required to assist with organising this event.

Internship 1) Media and Communications Intern (Media and Communications students)
Key Responsibilities
-Contact case studies to secure for media interviews
-Liaise with local media to arrange stories and interviews with women
-Provide local journalists with background information, fact sheets, images etc
-Maintain database of media coverage
-Manage case studies database
-Pitching media releases to local newspapers on behalf of our corporate sponsor
-Media liaison on behalf of corporate sponsor

Key Selection Criteria
-Outstanding written and verbal communication skills;
High level of initiative and ability to work independently;
-High level organisational and time management skills including balancing competing priorities to meet deadlines.
-Strong interpersonal skills, including an excellent phone manner;
-Interest in the not-for-profit sector and media campaign development and execution.

Internship 2) Event management and Outreach 
Eligible Students: Any undergraduate disciplines may apply 
Event Management
Develop and maintain contact lists for events (using Salesforce)
-Assist with the development of event invitations and supporting materials
-Distribute invitations, merchandise
-Manage RSVPs for events including Teal Ribbon Day breakfast via Salesforce
-Liaise with offices and corporate partners
-Ensure permits and licenses are in place
-Assist with event bump-in and bump-out, volunteer coordination, supplier management
-Monitor progress of events
-Assist with the acquisition of items to be used for fundraising
Key Selection Criteria
Excellent written and oral communication;
Demonstrated high-level interpersonal and relationship building skills;
Well-developed planning, research and organisational skills;
An ability to prioritise tasks and work on multiple projects at any given time;
Ability to problem-solve and to take initiative;
Experience with database management;
Knowledge and experience of the health and/or not for profit sector;
Knowledge and interest in Australian government is desirable.
