Title: Media Engagement for Environmental Sustainability

Alternative Technology Association (ATA) is a Melbourne-based, independent not-for-profit organisation working to support environmental sustainability. It publishes ReNew and Sanctuary magazines, and organises a successful nation-wide Sustainable House Day (SHD) event to promote the mainstreaming of the energy-efficient practices. The event, accompanied by a range of media campaigns (radio, website, social media), invites the public to visit open sustainable houses.

Duties:

Students will contribute to the ATA’s media and communication strategy to promote and document Sustainable House Day public event (17 September 2018). They will have an opportunity to apply a variety of media and communications research and production skills such as:

  • Create media production (e.g. videos) to be used on the SHD website;
  • Data collection and analysis;
  • Presentation and write up of event-specific information for public dissemination (online or paper-based formats).

Key skills required:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to create engaging content
  • Video making skills
  • Team work
  • Capability to work towards specific deadlines

Interest in environmental sustainability is desirable although not obligatory.  The main focus of the internship is on the practical use of academic knowledge and communications skills in professional contexts, with concrete, useful outcomes.
