About the Organisation
The Indonesia Biodiversity Foundation (KEHATI) is an independent non-profit organisation working in the area of biodiversity conservation and biological resource management. KEHATI was established on January 12, 1994 in Jakarta and is also registered in the USA as a grant making foundation for conservation activity. The establishment of this Foundation was closely related to the 1992 Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro and the Tokyo Declaration of 1993. These events encouraged the USA, Japan and Indonesia to make an agreement to support the efforts of sustainable biodiversity conservation programs in Indonesia. During its 20 years of implementing environmental activities in Indonesia, KEHATI has mainly focused on three ecosystems; agricultural ecosystems, forests, and coastal and small island ecosystems.
