Ernst & Young (EY). EY is a global leader in assurance, tax, transaction and advisory  services. They currently have 5 exciting internship roles available for MEMS and MIDP students.

Role 1: Internship title: Valuing Contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals
In 2016, 193 UN member-states, along with a critical number of businesses and civil society representatives, endorsed the 2030 agenda for sustainable development. This includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 associated targets. 18 months since their launch, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are being adopted broadly as a soft strategic tool by organisations. EY is interested in developing hard impact measurement methodologies to help organisations determine their personal contribution to the SDGs.

Role 2:  Internship title: Digital enablers for effective risk management
Digital technology is defining our present and our future. Digital is the mega-trend of our time, with new technology challenging the way we do things at work, at home, and in all aspects of our lives. Digital is radically reshaping every industry, often improving the management of HSE risks and creating new ones simultaneously. Greater understanding is required of how technology can be used as an enabler for effective management of both physical, psychological and environmental workplace risks, and the achievement of sustainable economies. The student will work with EY’s HSE team to conduct a literature review relating to digital solutions that enable effective HSE risk management.

Role 3: Psychosocial Risk Management Project
Psychosocial Risk Management: An emerging sustainability challenge:
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) law is now facing a significant transition – a shift away from the century-plus focus on physical harm prevention e.g. slips, trips and falls toward the legislated requirement to preserve both physical and psychological safety within the workplace. The student will work with EY’s Health and Safety team to conduct a literature review on workplace psychosocial risk management as an emerging sustainability challenge for Australian businesses.

Role 4: 2018 EY Climate Risk Barometer
Recognising there are gaps in the information disclosed on the financial impact of climate risk across the investment chain, in December 2016 the industry-led Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) set up by the Financial Stability Board (FSB), issued a series of draft recommendations (the Recommendations). The final recommendation report is expected to be issued in June – July 2017, post a consultation period, which closed on 12 February 2017. The objective of the 2018 Climate Risk Barometer is to map the improvements in corporate climate-related disclosures against the industry-led Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). The 2018 publication will measure the progress made by listed and non-listed companies one year after the release of the TCFD recommendations. The student will work with EY’s Climate Change and Energy team to conduct the analysis that will support the 2018 Climate Risk Barometer.

Role 5: Sustainability Assurance Analysis
The student will work with EY’s Sustainability Reporting and Assurance team to conduct a review of various companies’ sustainability, integrated, reconciliation disclosures. With reference to thought leadership, best practice case studies and academic research in Australia and oversees, the objectives of the project are to analyse and report conclusions on trends for:
-How many companies are developing sustainability and or integrated reports, what is their focus on materiality and outcomes
– How many companies are gaining assurance for their sustainability reports, who their auditor is, what level of assurance is being provided, and what assurance standards are being used
-how many companies are developing Reconciliation Action Plans, and at what level these plans are being developed.
