Background: Founded in 1975, Yayasan Usaha Mulia (YUM)‐ Foundation for Noble Work‐ is a not‐for‐profit organisation that works to improve the quality of life of the poor in Indonesia. They do this through Education projects, Health projects and Community Development projects.

The organisation’s health projects focus on sanitation, clean water, health promotion and malaria. The community development projects work in a number of sectors, including agriculture and microcredit for women. Communications and Fundraising intern

Project objective / key areas of engagement: You will primarily be focused on the day-­to-­day activities within the communications and fundraising division. Your main areas of engagement will be understanding the frameworks of grant/donor applications and fundraising methods. The key objective of the internship will be to use your relevant knowledge and skills to help prepare applicable documents and reports for these processes.
Likely tasks / description of role:

Your role will be a Communications and Fundraising Intern.

In this position, your general responsibilities may include, but not be limited to:

  • Writing reports and proposals for Grant and Donor
  • Developing strategies for fundraising and
  • Preparing newsletters, flyers and promotional
  • Helping to organise events for Yayasan Usaha
  • Managing the organisation’s social media
  • Attending any relevant
  • Visiting schools to conduct educational
  • Attending YUM’s ‘Women’s Bazaar’ on some

During this internship, there may be potential for you to visit Yayasan Usaha Mulia’s project sites in West Java or Kalimantan. However, this will be dependent on the capacity of the organisation at the time of your internship.

Output required by intern The tangible output of the work undertaken during this internship will likely include report writing, grant applications, newsletters, flyers, educational material. Intangible output will most likely include the attendance of meetings, field projects, school education programs and relevant events.
Expected work hours 9:00am – 5:00pm, Mon – Fri, with some attendance at weekend events as well.
Dress code Casual dress. Appropriate footwear is required (No flip flops). Batik clothing is considered workwear in Indonesia and can be found cheaply in various malls across Jakarta.
Requirements for intern

This internship will suit students from Communications/PR, International development, International studies, Social Work.

Only English is required.

A Skype interview will be required.

Please read as much as you can about Yayasan Usaha Mulia prior to arriving in Indonesia, so that you are familiar with what the organisation does and the types of projects they are involved in.

You are encouraged to bring your own laptop to this internship.

Costs

The fee charged by International Internships (Service Provider) is in addition to the tuition fees for the unit ATS3130. Accommodation and incountry support packages are optional but highly recommended.

Travel insurance is provided by Monash University. It will cover you for personal travel prior to and after your overseas program, and includes access to 24-hour a day medical and emergency assist services.

Scholarships

Post Graduate:

  • Asiabound Scholarship at $3,000 each

To be eligible for scholarships you must be:

  • An Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Enrolled as an  postgraduate student

All students (domestic and international) will be eligible for additional $900 Monash Abroad Travel bursary plus travel insurance.

Domestic students may be eligible for interest free government loan (like HECS) of up to $7,500 through OS-HELP.
