Communication and Engagement Internship

The City of Yarra is an inner metropolitan municipality which is home to a diverse community of about 94,000 people.

Yarra’s 19.5 square kilometres include the suburbs of Abbotsford, Burnley, Clifton Hill, Collingwood, Cremorne, Fitzroy, North Carlton, North Fitzroy, Princes Hill and Richmond. Parts of Alphington and Fairfield – south of Heidelberg Road – are also included in Yarra.

Students will be supported at all times by senior communication officers and the Unit Manager. As an inner city council, the Communication and Engagement Branch works within an issues rich environment, dealing regularly with local and state-wide media, stakeholders and the business community. Students will get to work on a diversity of tasks and activities in a busy team.

Key Duties:

  • Opportunity to work in a team of 11 Communication and Engagement professionals, in one of Victoria’s largest Council’s.
  • Support a range of communication projects, activities and tasks.
  • Write content for Council’s community newspaper- Yarra News
  • Support Civic Events such as Citizenship Ceremonies.
  • Contribute to Council’s online presence through social media and digital platforms and assist in the development and administration of Council’s web site.
  • Assist with areas of brand management, design and publications, digital communications including social media, marketing and civic events.
  • Contribute to creative and innovative internal and digital communications programs, activities, content and solutions that are engaging and best practise.
