Alpha Archaeology Internship

Background: Alpha Archaeology was established in 2004 and is a cultural heritage consultancy that offers service throughout Australia, having successfully completed hundreds of projects in Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia.

Alpha staff are well versed in cultural heritage interpretation and assessment and can provide you with cultural heritage advice for any project. They work closely with Aboriginal stakeholders and are experienced liaising between all stakeholders involved in a development project. They have an excellent track record obtaining approved Cultural Heritage Management Plans and Permit Applications on behalf of their clients, and liaise with the government agencies to ensure a successful outcome each and every time.

Currently they are looking for 2 interns for the below projects. This will be an excellent opportunity for students to hone their research and writing skills on a real project.

Title

 Gold Rush Carlton

Brief description

 Background research and reporting for 1800’s shops & residences along Swanston Street, Carlton.

Genre

 Project report.

Role of Student

 Background research and writing their findings.

Project 2

Title

 Ziebell’s Dairy – Epping

Brief description

 Excavation report, including background history, of an early Germantown homestead at Epping.

Genre

 Project report.

Role of Student

 Assisting archaeologist with background research and writing their findings, illustrations, report writing.

  March 2017-May 2017

Duration: Minimum 144 hours in Sem 1, 2017

Eligibility for Credit

1. The students should meet the eligibility criteria to enrol in ATS3129 Arts Internship (12CP) unit (completed 96 CP and have a distinction average)

2. Check with Arts Student services if you have room in your degree for this unit.
