Brief description of the internship

With over 50 000 contactable alumni, Monash Arts is seeking an intern to work in the Alumni and External Engagement group to assist in the research of alumni from 2000-2016 and create a plan of engagement with these alumni, as well as identifying key graduates from this cohort.

The Alumni portfolio has recently been established in the Faculty; this internship offers students the opportunity to utilise and develop their research skills, and to build and create best practice around data collection and research in alumni engagement; a key sector across higher education in Australia.

We are looking for an energetic, dynamic and organised intern with excellent interpersonal and research skills who is willing to learn and contribute. The intern should have:

  • Excellent written or oral communicative skills;
  • Excellent computer skills, including internet research or CRM experience
  • Customer service or event experience
  • Experience or interest in research  
  • Strong skills in excel or other database management.

Position description/Role of intern

  • Assist with the research of alumni, coordinating detailed information from a variety of sources, maintaining information on the alumni database and producing alumni profile reports as required;
  • Contribute to the collation, production and curation of alumni communications
  • Maintain clear and accessible profile and engagement records relating to all activities, ensuring that they are recorded appropriately and in a timely
  • In collaboration with the Manager, Alumni Relations, identify and develop new research and administrative processes and systems to improve efficiencies in the Alumni Relations
  • In collaboration with the Manager, Alumni Relations, create a best practice guide for alumni research and data storage, in line with University privacy rules and regulations.
  • Meet with the Research Services team in External Relations, Development and Alumni (ERDA) to understand how data is kept and managed at Monash.
  • Attend select meetings with the Manager, Alumni Relations, and the Senior Manager, Alumni and External Engagement;
  • Attend team meetings;
  • Attend select alumni events with the Manager, Alumni Relations;
  • Other duties as directed by the Manager, Alumni Relations, and/or the Senior Manager, Alumni and External Engagement.

The position reports to the Manager, Alumni Relations, with dotted line reporting to the Senior Manager, Alumni and External Engagement.

We are flexible in how the 144 hours required for the internship is completed, i.e., across full, half or part days. However, the work must be completed between Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm and at Monash Clayton, unless discussed prior to the appointment.
