Public engagement

In addition to supporting our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, historical research at Monash University contributes to the intellectual life of the broader community. Monash historians are committed to public engagement, bringing our work to the community through a variety of outreach efforts. Through public lectures, consultation on exhibits, and media projects, our historians bring to life interesting and important stories of who we were and how we became who we are.

To give but two of many examples, the Australian Generations Oral History Project works in partnership with Radio National to tell the stories of ordinary Australians through a series of programs on the ABC’s Hindsight; the Making Public Histories seminar series links our scholars in the Monash University Institute of Public History to the History Council of Victoria and the Old Treasury Building to offer engaging talks of interest to the general public.
