The latest Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) results released last week had some excellent news for Arts, and SOPHIS.

First piloted in 2009, ERA assesses research quality within Australia’s higher education institutions. It uses a combination of indicators and expert review by committees comprising of experienced, internationally-recognised experts.

This year the Arts Faculty, and in particular History and Philosophy, achieved fantastic results. No 4-digit codes returned less than a  3 (world standard) and both History and Philosophy scored  the maximum rating of 5 (well above world standard). The following areas were all rated 4, (above world standard):

Human geography
Film, TV and digital media
Performing Arts and creative Writing
Cultural Studies
Linguistics
Literary Studies
Archaeology
Religion and Religious Studies
History and Philosophy of Specific Fields
