Postgraduate Research Scholarships
Information for Applicants
Postgraduate Research Scholarships are available for full-time research at postgraduate level for study at one of Monash University’s Australian campuses. Over 300 living allowances or stipend scholarships and 70 international tuition-paying scholarships are offered at the main central selection round, which closes on 31 October each year. A mid-year scholarship round is held each year which closes on 31 May. Approximately 70 living allowances or stipend scholarships and 15 tuition-paying scholarships are offered.
The Faculty of Arts is committed to innovative research and the provision of a supportive and stimulating environment for postgraduate researchers.
Current PhD and research master’s candidates in the Faculty of Arts may also be eligible for a host of scholarships offered by Monash and the Faculty of Arts.

Application process
Before completing the application process, scholarship applicants for the Faculty of Arts must undertake the following:
Step 1 – Check scholarship eligibility
Step 2 – Prepare a research proposal
Step 3 – Determine and consult the relevant graduate research program
Step 4 – Identify appropriate supervisor/s for the proposed research
Step 5 – Complete on-line scholarship application form
Please note that applicants are required to make contact with their prospective graduate research program before they complete an online scholarship application form. Consultation with Monash staff will help to streamline the application process and improve the quality of the application itself. Staff members can provide the following assistance:
- assessment of an applicant against the relevant scholarship selection criteria
- refinement of the applicant’s research proposal
- identification of appropriate supervisor/s for the applicant’s research
- advice on the documentation to submit in support of an application
Application closing date
Applications for scholarships close on 31 October (end-of-year round) and 31 May (mid-year round) each year.
