No, you are not. Currently enrolled students do not have to meet the coursework and training requirements of the PhD or Masters by Research introduced in 2013.

I enrolled in my research degree before 1 January 2013 and am interested in some of the training modules on offer. Is it possible to participate in the new training?

I enrolled in my research degree before 1 January 2013 and am interested in some of the new coursework units on offer. Can I enrol in or audit the coursework?

Yes; currently enrolled students may apply to enrol in the new coursework units with the approval of their supervisor and Program Co-ordinator.  You will also need to speak with the Unit Co-ordinator before completing an Enabling Coursework Request Form at http://intranet.monash.edu.au/migr/candidates/manage/variation.html.  The Unit Co-ordinator will also advise whether it is possible to audit the unit.

I enrolled in my research degree before 1 January 2013 and am interested in the new coursework and training offered in a program other than my own.  Can I enrol in or audit the coursework?  Can I do some of their training?

Yes; currently enrolled students may also apply to enrol in a coursework unit from another program with the approval of their supervisor and Program Co-ordinator.  You will also need to speak with the Unit Co-ordinator before completing an Enabling Coursework Request Form at http://intranet.monash.edu.au/migr/candidates/manage/variation.html.  The Unit Co-ordinator will also advise whether it is possible to audit the unit.

Currently enrolled students may participate in HDR training modules from across the Faculty and University, and do not need to enrol in training modules through the Student System. Speak with your Graduate Research Administrator in the first instance for advice on how to register.

I’m enrolled in a research degree in another Faculty. Can I enrol in or audit a coursework unit offered by the Faculty of Arts?  Can I register for some of the Arts training?

Students in faculties other than Arts may also apply to enrol in the new coursework units.  You will also need to speak with the Unit Co-ordinator before completing an Enabling Coursework Request Form at http://intranet.monash.edu.au/migr/candidates/manage/variation.html.  The Unit Co-ordinator will also advise whether it is possible to audit the unit.

I enrolled in my research degree before 1 January 2013.  How do I know what program I’m based in?  Will I still be enrolled through my current school?

Candidates will be nominally based in the program with which their primary supervisor is affiliated, however this will not appear on the transcript of students who enrolled in their degree prior to 1 January 2013.  You will be advised in writing by the end of October 2012 of your new program affiliation, as well as the contact details for your Program Director, Program Co-ordinator and Graduate Research Administrator. Currently enrolled students will remain administratively enrolled through their current schools, but will need to refer to their Program Co-ordinator and program-based Graduate Research Administrator for advice on all HDR, candidature and resourcing matters in the first instance.

Who is the Graduate Co-ordinator for my program? Who provides the administrative support?

Each program will be governed by a Program Executive Committee.  This committee will comprise a Program Director; a Program Co-ordinator; disicpline/school representatives where required; and a Graduate Research Administrator, who will support each program and who will be available as a first point of contact and advice.  Each committee will also have a student representative.

What if my supervisors are based in different programs? Can I choose which program I want to be based in?

Candidates will be based in the program with which their main supervisor is affiliated. However it is possible to have supervisors in more than one program.

Candidates who enrolled prior to 1 January 2013 should note that they are not expected to meet the coursework and training requirements of the new HDR programs, and that their program affiliation will not appear on their transcript.

Candidates who enrol after 1 January 2013 will need to meet the coursework and training requirements of the program in which they are based.

Please speak with your Graduate Research Administrator in the first instance if you have concerns with your program affiliation.
