Our program brings together some of Australia’s leading researchers in film, television, communication, media studies, journalism and journalism studies. The potential research topics range from the effects of digital media on globalisation to indigenous film, and new forms of journalism. We can also offer a practice-based PhD in journalism.
The Historical Studies program has an outstanding reputation, both nationally and internationally. Our program provides candidates with the opportunity to benefit from academic expertise across a broad range of historical subjects.
The Linguistics and Applied Linguistics program features a number of recognised linguists, both nationally and internationally, researching across a broad range of specialties in linguistics and applied linguistics. The program is also home to the Language and Society Centre.
The Literary & Cultural Studies Graduate Research Program offers specialisations in literary studies, creative writing and translation and interpreting studies. We offer the only practice-based PhD in translation studies in Australia.
The Social & Political Sciences Graduate Research Program encompasses a range of social science disciplines including Anthropology, Criminology, Gender Studies, Politics and International Relations and Sociology situated in the School of Social Sciences.
Located in the University’s Performing Arts Centre, our program is home to internationally renowned research in theatre and performance studies and musicology. Candidates also have the option of undertaking practice-based degrees in music performance, music composition and theatre performance.
