“How to do Wildfire Research – Episode 4 –  The CEFA Experience”
Dr. Tim Brown
Desert Research Institute, USA
Wednesday 1st May, 1-2 pm, E457, Building 11, Clayton Campus

Abstract:

The program for Climate, Ecosystem and Fire Applications (CEFA) at the Desert Research Institute (DRI) has been operating a wildfire program for federal, state and international agencies since the late 1990s. Most of the projects CEFA undertakes utilizes co-production of knowledge concepts with the agency partner to ensure a desirable outcome. This presentation will give an overview of current wildfire issues in the U.S. from policy and research perspectives. Discussion will include insight on performing research to operations, and what constitutes formal partnerships between agencies and researchers. Examples of research projects will be provided. The presentation will conclude with an overview of a partner project between Victoria Department of Sustainability and Environment, Monash University and DRI.
