Submission on the Migration Amendment (Family Violence and Other Measures) Bill 2016

Dr Marie Segrave, of the Gender and Family Violence Focus Research Program, has led a submission to the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee regarding the Migration Amendment (Family Violence and Other Measures) Bill 2016. The submission can be found here and download as a PDF here. The submission is a collaborative one: bringing together researchers from the Border Crossing ObservatoryMonash Gender and Family Violence program along with InTouch Multicultural Centre Against Family Violence.

The submission is one of 12 made to the Committee, the majority of which (9 of the 12) pose significant concerns regarding the proposed legislation and its impact. The submission reflects in part on the current research being undertaken by Dr Segrave and InTouch focused on temporary migration and family violence but it also draws on the findings of the recently published Review of the Family Violence Risk Assessment and Risk Management Framework in Victoria.

The submission is an example of the focus on collaboration adopted within the research agendas of both the Border Crossing Observatory and Monash Gender and Family Violence program.
