About

  • Film Culture and Theory is a new research hothouse exploring past and contemporary film worlds. As a true internationalist, we hold a strong interest in World Cinema, the documentary, Australian cinema, film aesthetics and intellectual histories. We also pursues a particular sub-focus on all things cult, bad and underground.

Our research unit’s field of interest encompasses film in all its forms and systems of delivery – digital and analogue, computer screens and public cinema, feature length blockbusters and experimental shorts, plus everything in between.

From the first silent films through to YouTube, Film Culture and Theory contributes to a body of research at the vanguard of film theory, criticism, history and culture.
