Free Sound Series Concert -Monash Big Band with the Royal Australian Navy Band

The Monash University Big Band is an eighteen-piece ensemble that explores the stylistic history of jazz and the stage band/big band repertoire. The ensemble facilitates the development of students’ skills in improvisation, sight-reading, understanding of jazz styles and ensemble performance practices. The Monash University Big Band has performed with international artists John Abercrombie, George Garzone, Maria Schneider, Eddie Palmieri and Argentinian New York based composer Guillermo Klein.

The Admiral’s Own Big Band is based at HMAS CERBERUS in Victoria and is part of the Royal Australian Navy Band Melbourne. Made up of 18 of Navy’s finest jazz and commercial musicians, the Admiral’s Own perform a diverse repertoire of vocal and instrumental Big Band music, from Dance Band classics through to contemporary Jazz Orchestra compositions. Throughout its history, the band has performed for thousands of audiences within Australia and around the world. Today, the RAN Band continue a proud tradition of providing ceremonial, musical and public relations support for the Royal Australian Navy.
