Sandy Evans (saxophone) and Andrea Keller (piano) are two of Australia’s most recognised and accomplished jazz artists, having received multiple awards between them. Throughout their careers they have each established a unique voice, placing them at the forefront of jazz and improvised music as both performers and composers.

This concert features them performing alongside jazz students from the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music.

Sandy Evans is an internationally renowned saxophonist and composer with a passion for improvisation and new music. In 2014 she graduated with a PhD from Macquarie University and received a Churchill Fellowship to research in India.

She is a member of MARA!, The Catholics, the Australian Art Orchestra (AAO), Ten Part Invention, austraLYSIS, Kim Sanders and Friends, SNAP and GEST8. Sandy’s suite When The Sky Cries Rainbows, recorded for ABC Jazztrack won the AIR Award for Best Independent Jazz CD in 2011.

During Keller’s professional career, she has led many projects as a pianist, most notably The Andrea Keller Quartet, The Bartok Project, The Wayne Shorter Project, The Komeda Project, From Ether, and Three Lanes. She was a co-founding member of the original Bennetts Lane Big Band (2001-2013), and is a represented artist of the Australian Music Centre.
Lauded for her music, Keller has received three ARIA Awards, four Australian Jazz ‘Bell’ Awards, two Art Music Awards, fellowships from the MCA/Freedman Foundation and the Australia Council, and most recently the APRA/AMC Professional Development Award for jazz.
