Monash research in the news: ‘A Second Chance for Justice’

The opinion piece written by Drs Asher Flynn and Kate Fitz-Gibbon provides an insight into the heavy costs of justice in the modern era. Drawing on concerns surrounding the precarious Victoria Legal Aid funding, which has led to the staying of two Supreme Court trials; the decision to review the increased fees associated with the Australian Federal Court and; the financial pressures that infiltrated the Australian and US handling of the Gabe Watson case, the piece argues that legal outcomes are largely determined on resource availability and money. The piece is informed by Asher and Kate’s book, A Second Chance for Justice: The Prosecutions of Gabe Watson for the Death of Tina Thomas.
