Teacher Training Program

The aims of this program, a joint venture of the ACJC and the network of Melbourne Jewish day-schools, are:

  • To create a cadre of well-trained Jewish studies teachers
  • To provide professional development opportunities for existing teachers of Jewish studies
  • To provide opportunities for teachers to pursue post graduate studies in Jewish education

Teacher training program

Students who have completed either a major or minor in Jewish Studies (or an approved equivalent) and are interested in pursuing a career in Jewish day school secondary education can apply for admission (via VTAC) to a Diploma of Education in Monash University’s Faculty of Education. As part of their studies in education, students can undertake a two semester course which specialises in the principles and practice of Jewish education. Those who have completed a major or minor in Hebrew language (or an approved equivalent) can complete a specialism in LOTE, which qualifies them to teach secondary school Hebrew.
